What Makes a Parent Give?
Spotlight on Edward Fetner, Jr.
Mr. Edward H. Fetner, Jr. is a proud Citadel parent and a loyal giver to The Citadel Foundation. What makes Mr. Fetner unique as a giver to The Citadel Foundation is that he is a "past parent"—his son gradated from The Citadel in 1973. For over thirty years, Mr. Fetner has been grateful for what The Citadel gave not only to his son, but also to him and his wife as parents of a cadet.
Mr. Fetner and his wife, the late Mrs. Nadine C. Fetner, visited The Citadel often when their son, Edward H. Fetner, III, attended The Citadel. In twenty-five years, he never missed a home football game and frequently traveled out of state for away games. The Citadel has always been one of Mr. Fetner’s favorite schools, and he would have attended himself but was ineligible to join the Corps of Cadets due to the Polio disease. He has seen so many cadets graduate and go on to do great things after leaving The Citadel; there is no other school with which he would rather be associated. Mr. Fetner even had the privilege of corresponding with General Mark W. Clark, President of The Citadel from 1954-1965.
Mr. Fetner’s son, Ted, served in the U.S. Air Force following his graduation from The Citadel and currently resides on Johns Island, S.C., and works for Merrill Lynch. Mr. Fetner resides in Chapin, S.C.
