The Citadel Foundation is working hand-in-hand with each class to create a reunion model that competes with our peer schools and academies.  Through this new tradition, known as Class Reunion Campaigns (CRC), those classes celebrating significant reunions will have an opportunity to rally together in support of The Citadel and its greatest needs. Please join the class in leaving a legacy at The Citadel!

In November 2017, the Class of 1977 will return to The Citadel to celebrate a 40th Reunion. To mark this momentous occasion the class has set a goal of $1,000,000 for The Citadel which includes support for a project on campus.

Goal: $250,000

September 2017

Dear Classmates:

On behalf of our Class of 1977Reunion Campaign Committee, I would like to once again thank you for your continued commitment to not only our class, but to The Citadel as well.  Without the support and dedication of alumni and friends, our college could not continue to excel.

As you all well know, we have been sharing our progress regarding our 40th Reunion Campaign for quite some time. We have now come to that point where we need that final push to make sure we achieve our goals. The good news is that we have reached our $1M overall goal! Thanks to all of you that have helped us approach this milestone. But we’re not quite there yet! Here’s how we’ll do that … we remain far short of our goal for the class project; The Class of 1977 Bastin Hall Great Lawn, please make all of your further donations specifically to the CRC Project. We are approximately $144,633 below our $250,000 goal and any donation to the class project also applies to the overall goal.

Remember, the pledge does not have to be a lump sum payment; it may be paid over the three years in any way that works for you, lump-sum, annually, semi-annually, monthly, or weekly.

A word on the project:  The Class of 1977 Great Lawn will provide an outdoor space for cadets and graduate students to gather to study and socialize as they prepare to launch their careers. Additionally, this space will provide an excellent venue for special events, providing opportunities for community involvement, while also generating revenue for The Citadel.

As I am writing this first draft, the Class of 2021 will experience their oath ceremony this evening.  I implore you to remember our ceremony together on Summerall Field and then four short years later how we walked across that graduation stage … together. Let’s once again pull together as a brotherhood and do our part to ensure that a world class Citadel cadet experience continues.

In the coming weeks, a member of our Campaign Reunion Committee will again be contacting you to ask for your consideration of an outright gift or pledge to meet the project goal.

If you have contributed to the project, please consider increasing your gift or helping us reach out to those classmates who have not yet joined us in this team effort. If you have not yet contributed, please consider doing so.  Of course, your best financial effort is desired, but equally as important to me personally, is your participation. To date, a large majority of us have not joined this effort, more than 67% have not yet contributed to the CRC project and 64% have not participated in any way. I know that we can do much, much better than that. The dollars ARE important, but they will come with greater participation.

The committee is assisted by Chris Murray ‘07 (Chris.Murray@citadel.edu or 843-953-5839) with The Citadel Foundation.  You can direct any questions to Chris, myself, your battalion or company rep.

I want to once again express my thanks and the thanks of your committee, for your consideration and financial support of The Citadel.

See you SOON in Charleston … Oh Thank Heaven for ‘77,
