Class of 1983 Bond Hall Eagle Project

bond hall eagleOften referred to as “The Citadel’s Guardian,” the stone eagle atop Bond Hall has for many years stood as a sentinel overlooking Summerall Field and protecting the barracks. The eagle was constructed of concrete and wire and time and the elements have not been kind to the eagle, which has deteriorated and been subject to many repairs.  Answering a request from The Citadel to fund the replacement of the eagle is The Citadel Class of 1983. This gift will provide for the casting and installation of a bronze eagle, which will better withstand the challenges of weather and time. The gift will also provide an endowment for perpetual maintenance, ensuring that the eagle will remain “The Citadel’s Guardian” for generations to come.

The goal of the Class of 1983 is to raise $200,000 and to have funding completed by December 31, 2016. Gifts towards the goal will be held in a project fund named the Class of 1983 Bond Hall Eagle fund. Of this $200,000, $25,000 will be designated to establish the Class of 1983 Bond Hall Eagle Maintenance Endowment fund.
