The Class of 2008's 10th Reunion Campaign - Join Us!

The Citadel Foundation is working hand-in-hand with each class to create a reunion model that competes with our peer schools and academics. Through this new tradition, known as Class Reunion Campaigns (CRC), those classes celebrating significant reunions will have an opportunity to rally together in support of The Citadel and its greatest needs. Please join the class in leaving a legacy at The Citadel.

In November 2018, the Class of 2008 will return to The Citadel to celebrate their 10th Reunion. To mark this momentous occasion the class has set a goal of $100,000 for The Citadel which includes support for a project on campus.

September 2016

Dear Classmates,

I hope this letter finds you all well (and gearing up for another exciting Citadel football season!) Our 10th Class Reunion Campaign (CRC) is officially underway, and I would like to share with you all the direction in which we are headed. As I mentioned in our last letter, The Citadel’s Foundation for Leadership campaign aims to raise $175,000,000 by the end of 2018, and the class of 2008 has the chance to play an integral role in this effort. The campaign’s priorities focus on Academics, Athletics, Facilities, Leadership and Strategic Growth. Relating to facilities, in the coming years, The Citadel will be building Bastin Hall, a new building to house the School of Business, and conducting a complete renovation and expansion of Capers Hall.

During the course of the last few months, the Class of 2008 10th CRC committee has met several times to discuss the way ahead for our campaign. Our meetings resulted in setting an overall goal of $100,000 to be raised by December 31, 2018 in cash, pledges, and legacy gifts. Within this goal, we have selected a designated project for our class, the new Capers Hall Student Lounge, with a goal of $50,000.

We selected this project because this gift:

• Will provide a relaxing space for all cadets, evening students, veteran students, and graduate students.

• Will provide more room for collaboration and group projects, which is not readily available at this time

• Will be located on the ground floor, open 24/7 and will be outfitted with couches, tables, chairs, vending machines, Wi-Fi, and TVs.

As virtually every cadet that attends The Citadel will pass by this lounge, we felt that making this effort our class project would be something that would leave a memorable impact on the school for generations to come.

Of course, you can still direct your support to other funds or areas on campus – your gift will still help our overall effort. However, if you are interested in supporting the Class of 2008 Capers Hall Student Lounge, please designate your gift to the “Class of 2008 Reunion Fund”. No matter how large or small your gift, participation is key to a successful effort. When you join in by making a gift of any amount, you are offering both The Citadel and the Class of 2008 your vote of confidence.

We are continuing to assign “Company Reps” for this campaign, and they will be contacting each of you soon if they have not already. They can talk to you about how you can give your support, and there are many ways that we can all help. Many flexible giving methods are available during our Reunion Campaign to help us reach our goal, such as cash gifts, multi-year pledges, gifts of stock, and legacy gifts. Consider the impact you could make, knowing that you have until December 31, 2021 to pay off a multi-year pledge.

If you are not currently an annual contributor, I encourage you to start giving back to our alma mater. The Citadel needs our continued financial support to ensure future generations of Citadel cadets receive the quality education and Citadel experience that we had the privilege of getting. If you are ready now, please see the enclosed information to help you get started, or you can make a gift safely and securely online at https://foundation.citadel.edu/2008giving and also search for funds you may be interested in supporting.

The Citadel 10th Reunion CampaignWe have already begun to receive individual pledges for the total of $2,008. The payments can be made monthly, and the monthly increment required is very reasonable. As of right now, our participation is only around 2% with only $3,000 in pledges and donations. I know we would all like to see these figures increase by this year’s end.

Please feel free to contact me or any member of the 2008 CRC committee directly, should you have any questions about our class project and campaign. In addition, I encourage you to be proactive and contact Katie Hurtt, Development Assistant for the Class Reunion Campaign Team, with any questions you have regarding our project or how to donate now on her direct line at 843-953-0745 or email her at katie.hurtt@citadel.edu.

We are all excited about our potential as a class to continue to leave a strong legacy for our school.

Class of 2008
Reunion Campaign Project

The Class of 2008 CRC Committee has chosen the Capers Hall Student Lounge as the project for the Class of 2008 Class Reunion Campaign.  This gift will provide a space for all cadets, evening students, veteran students, and graduate students to relax and enjoy a little downtime.  In addition, it will provide more room for collaboration and group projects, which is not readily available at this time.  Located by the knob stairwell on the first floor and open 24/7, it will be outfitted with couches, tables, chairs, vending machines, Wi-Fi, and TVs.

Capers Hall Renovation

Built in 1951, Capers Hall is one of the most frequently used buildings on campus and is in dire need of renovation.  The new Capers Hall will link our best traditions of the past with our brightest hopes for the future. The larger building will have the same southeastern entrance to the campus by retaining its original facade and entrance portico but will include the addition of three new wings around a central courtyard, which will be distinctly Citadel. A substantially improved, modern, and visually appealing Capers Hall will serve as the community’s gateway to the campus and, more importantly, as the academic foundation for a 21st century Citadel education.

At a time to be determined, once all pledges for the Class of 2008 Capers Hall Student Lounge are fulfilled, a plaque bearing the name of the Class of 2008 will be dedicated in honor of the class.
