The Citadel Semper Fi Society
Semper Fi Society Mission and Purpose:
The Semper Fi Society (SFS) was created in order to provide Citadel cadets and Marines with the opportunities to enhance their development as future Marine Corps Officers and leaders. The SFS exposes members of the NROTC Unit, The Citadel to life in the Marine Corps by organizing and funding various events to include the Marine Corps Birthday Ball, Mess Night, yearly scholarships, and the annual Bulldog Challenge.
The annual Bulldog Challenge is hosted by the Semper Fi Society and provides the community with a unique and challenging physical endurance course. This event links the Charleston community and surrounding area with The Citadel’s NROTC Unit, while also providing a means by which active duty service members and ROTC units across the country can come together for a friendly competition. The course is run by a four-man team that tests the physical and mental toughness of each team member. Measuring just over six miles, the course stretches throughout The Citadel campus, parts of the City of Charleston, and through the marsh!
Funds raised by the Bulldog Challenge contribute to two annual scholarships given out to deserving cadets or Marines within the NROTC Unit, in addition to the funding of time-honored traditions such as Mess Night and the Marine Corps Birthday Ball.
The 20th Bulldog Challenge will be held on April 22, 2017. For more information regarding the 2017 Bulldog Challenge, please visit http://www.bdcrace.com/.
Every year, the Semper Fi Society provides two scholarships to deserving cadets or Marines in the NROTC Unit who have displayed outstanding academic, physical, military, and leadership achievement. Based upon GPA, PFT and CFT scores, ROTC performance, and peer recommendation, this scholarship contributes to the recipient’s learning development.
