The Class of 1967 50th Reunion Campaign - Join Us!

The Citadel Foundation is working hand-in-hand with each class to create a reunion model that competes with our peer schools and academics. Through this new tradition, known as Class Reunion Campaigns (CRC), those classes celebrating significant reunions will have an opportunity to rally together in support of The Citadel and its greatest needs. Please join the class in leaving a legacy at The Citadel.

In November 2017, the Class of 1967 will return to The Citadel to celebrate their 50th Reunion. To mark this momentous occasion the class has set a goal to raise $4,700,000 for The Citadel.  This includes support for two important projects on campus.  The Citadel is so thankful for the generous commitment of the Class of 1967!

September 2015

Dear Classmates:

We are about half way through with our Class Reunion Campaign in honor of our 50th Reunion at Homecoming in 2017!!  As you know by now, our class projects are raising $1 million as the Visioning Class for the Citadel War Memorial and raising $200,000 to get the Class of 1967 Memorial Scholarship fund to $1 million.

To date, we have raised approximately $3.1 million of our $4.7 million goal during our reunion campaign period of 2012-2017.  Of the money raised, approximately $1,069,000 has been raised toward our selected reunion projects.  We are 69% complete with our overall goal and 89% complete on our project goals.

Another aspect of our reunion campaign is participation.  Right now, only 68% of us have participated by making any type of contribution.  Band Company and R Company both have 100% participation! Congratulations to them, but we as a class can do much better than that!  I believe that each and every one of us, no matter what we have going on in our lives at the moment, can make some kind of a contribution to the school that gave us so much.

One way to be able to do this is with a planned gift.  Remember, our projects make up $1.2 million of our $4.7 million overall goal.  Planned Giving is a way to make an impact on The Citadel by using gifts that may cost nothing during your lifetime or by using gifts that will actually improve your tax position or cash flow.  The following offers a brief overview of gift strategies and benefits that might be implemented to integrate your charitable goals for The Citadel with your financial and estate planning:

Transferring ownership of securities or real estate to The Citadel Foundation
Receive an income tax charitable deduction
Bypass tax on any capital gain

 Will Bequest
Easiest to accomplish; Include The Citadel in your estate plan
Gift is made when your estate is settled
Retain lifelong ownership of and control over your assets

Beneficiary Designation for IRA or retirement assets
Designate to The Citadel Foundation instead of heirs to avoid double taxation
Reduce estate tax exposure

Charitable Gift Annuity
Convert cash or appreciated assets to a guaranteed lifetime income
Part gift to charity; part annuity; Income based on age; most attractive to senior donors

Charitable Remainder Trust
Leverage appreciated assets into increased income for yourself and/or others
Bypass tax on capital gain, increase income, and take a current income tax deduction
Provide income for the education of children or grandchildren

Life Insurance Policy
Beneficiary designation of existing policy
Transfer ownership of an existing policy
Purchase a new policy with The Citadel Foundation as owner and beneficiary
Income tax deduction for cash value and premium payments

If you have any questions regarding these or any other gift strategies, contact either of us or our liaison with The Citadel Foundation, Bill Yaeger, ’83 at (843) 953-3842 or email him at

To those of you who have already given—THANK YOU!  To those of you who have not yet had the opportunity to support our Class Reunion Campaign, there is still plenty of time!  Simply complete and return the enclosed contribution card with your gift or make your gift on our safe and secure website, on or before December 31st, 2017.  If you have any questions about our Class Reunion Campaign, again, please contact either of us or Bill Yaeger as mentioned above.

We hope to see many of you during the coming year, and hope most can make it to our mini-reunion this homecoming.  Many thanks for your consideration and financial support of our Class Reunion Campaign.

Class of 1967 Reunion Campagin Projects

The Class of 1967 Reunion Campaign Committee has chosen projects the class will support for the 50th Class Reunion Campaign.

The Citadel War Memorial

The Citadel War Memroial will be constructed adjacent to the summerall Chapel.  It will memorialize all alumni who sacrificed their lives in service to our nation.  The Citadel War Memorial is one of two class projects for The Class of 1967's 50th Reunion Campaign.  Upon completion of the $1,000,000 War Memorial project goal, The Class of 1967 will become the founding class of The Citadel War Memorial.

The Class of 1967 Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established to mark the occasion of their 10th reunion and in memory of their deceased classmates, the fund awards annual scholarships each year to a cadet or cadets believed to possess those attributes of ability, character, temperament, and personality that are in accord with the traditionally high standards of The Citadel.  The Class of 1967 Memorial Scholarship Fund is also a selected project for The Class of 1967's 50th Reunion Campaign.  The goal for this project is $200,000 over the course of the campaign.
