A Note from your Class Chair (March 7, 2018):

William Armstrong Leffler, III

Our class has lost another member! William Armstrong Leffler, III, “B” Company, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2018, at the Big Bend Hospice House in Tallahassee, FL. Bill is survived by his wife of 23 years, Cathy, three children and two granddaughters. A celebration of life will be held on April 14, 2018, in Tallahassee with details of the time and location to be announced at a future date.

Bill grew up in Sanford, FL, and at The Citadel he majored in Civil Engineering, later working in both the public and private sectors. He had a distinguished career as a civil engineer, and went on to graduate from Stetson College of Law in 1974. He was admitted to the Florida Bar and the United States Supreme Court Bar, as well as being a board certified Professional Engineer. While confined to a wheel chair, we were delighted to see Bill and Cathy at the 50th, and appreciate the sacrifice he made to attend.

Bill spent a lifetime in association with the Boy Scouts of America, and always encouraged young men and women to live lives of adventure, personal development, civic engagement and virtue. In keeping with that spirit, his family request in lieu of flowers, everyone “do a good turn daily.” Additionally, the family encourages charitable giving to your local BSA Council, The Citadel Alumni Association, Kairos Prison Ministry and the Big Bend Hospice. Bill’s son, Michael, will be making arrangements, and can be reached at 850-597-1045. We will provide additional data on time and location when available.

Our prayers go out to Bill’s family, and the community he spent so much time supporting.

Respectfully, John

Stand Forever, Yielding Never
The Citadel in the 21st Century by John Warley, '67

Publication date: March 21, 2018.
Publisher: Evening Post Books, Charleston, SC

Troops, the publication of this history resulted from a discussion among several members of the Class of 1967 on the night before Pat Conroy’s funeral in Beaufort, South Carolina, in March 2016. The class of 1967 sponsored the book as a gift to the entire Citadel family on the occasion of our 50th reunion and the 175th anniversary of the founding of The Citadel. With profound admiration and gratitude we dedicate it to the boys of ‘67 who became men on the far side of the world and didn’t come home:

Fred Joshua Carter
Glenn Richard Cook
Frederick Young Holjes
William Livingston McCormick
George Louis Miner
Thomas Duckett O'Connor
Richard William O'Keefe
John Thomas Orrico
George Thomas Taylor, Jr.
Bruce Richard Welge

And to the memory of our classmate Pat Conroy.

Pre-orders are being accepted at:

John Warley will be signing books at Mark Clark Hall on Friday, March 23 from 1 to 4 p.m., and on Saturday, March 24 from 8 to 11 a.m.

This will be a very special Corps Day for The Citadel and the Class of '67, and our thanks and congratulations to John and the entire class for making this possible.

Respectfully, John

A Note from your Class Chair (March 5, 2018):

Here we are close to Corps Day and the 175th Birthday for the Corps of Cadets, and this is a special one for all of us. First, we are now members of the Gold Corps (sad to say it's for "old guys"), having achieved that honor with the celebration of our 50th Reunion last October. The Corps Day celebration actually begins with the Krause Center Leadership Symposium on March 22/23, where industry representatives and the other military schools join The Citadel for leadership events and discussions. This year is special for the Class of '67, as our very own Mike Steele will receive the 2018 Krause Center Award for Distinguished Service, Leadership and Ethics at a ceremony in McAlister Field House at 11:15 AM on March 22. Hope we can have a big turnout for Mike and Pam, and hope to see many of you there!

Additionally, Corps Day is an excellent time to observe the Corp recognition ceremony, beginning early Saturday morning, where physical activities proceed traditional recognition, now all done on campus and on the quads, followed by a march by the fourth class w/cadre to Marion Square in front of the old Citadel for a renewing of the oath to The Citadel. It's a big day, and really done well!

For Corps Day activities and to register, go to

Lastly, we are still planning on a gathering at VMI for the football game on October 20, 2018, and we have 28 classmates already registered at the Natural Bridge Hotel and Conference Center in Natural Bridge, VA. (540-291-2121) There are still a few rooms available, and we will have a reception on Friday evening, along with a tailgate planned for Saturday prior to the game. Should be a terrific weekend, and thanks to Mike Bozeman and his team for pulling this together!

Get ready for Spring and hope to see you later this month!

Respectfully, John
