Veterans Program

The Citadel values the service of America’s veterans and believes that veteran students serve as powerful role models throughout the Corps of Cadets and in the campus environment.  Veteran alumni of The Citadel, are an essential component of The Citadel's leadership development program.

General Rosa has highlighted the expansion of veteran student services and programming as a presidential priority in the new strategic plan of The Citadel.  This initiative shows the dedication that The Citadel  has in bringing to campus more of the honorable and talented men and women who have served in the military. This year Veteran students serve as role models and mentors in the institution’s leadership laboratory.  The Veteran Student Program Fund supports three major areas:

  1. Scholarships:  Financial support will make a Citadel education possible for qualified veterans who may not have the means to continue their education.

  2. Program Enhancements: Veteran students have schedules and needs that differ greatly from those of cadets. The Citadel’s current staffing and support services must be expanded to provide excellent service and fully address student needs.  Funds are needed to expand financial aid staffing for veterans’ affairs, provide a dedicated space on campus for veteran students, and conduct workshops addressing the specific needs of veteran students such as personal finance management and career guidance.

  3. Marketing: In order to expand the veteran student population on campus, the college will combine marketing program plan to reach military personnel through online advertising, direct marketing on military bases, through veteran student and non grad students, and the use of both regional and national media.

A gift to the Veteran Student Program at The Citadel allows veterans to receive an excellent educational opportunity.

The Citadel's mission is to educate and develop its students to become principled leaders in all walks of life by instilling core values of Honor, Duty, and Respect in a disciplined and intellectually challenging environment.

Accomplishing this mission will require substantial additional resources, together with a continued commitment to efficiency, a focus on top priorities, and a determination to work hard. Gifts from individuals, companies, and organizations provide resources that will be used to recruit and retain outstanding students and professors, provide them with state-of-the-art technology and facilities, and enrich campus life through athletic and cultural activities.
